#APEC2015: 10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About APEC

Aside from the fact that it is a gathering of delegates from the member countries, what else do you know about Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation or APEC?

Just the heavy traffic it caused?

Nothing else?

Well my friend, don’t fret too much.

As what Philippine Information Agency or PIA Dir. Gen. Jose Mari Oquiñena have said in a forum last week, “We can’t look at APEC based on our own lens only.”

I do agree with him.

He also said, “You cannot define APEC solely based on the traffic it has caused to our streets.”

If we ask ourselves, “Traffic lang ba ang nahatag sa APEC sa ato?

My personal answer is no.

How about you?

There’s more to APEC that what we perceive and I am here to share to you some facts that you may not know about it.

#APEC2015 Tidbit # 1: APEC is like a neighborhood association.

That’s how Sir Lito Maderazo of Cebu City Chamber of Commerce described APEC.

Just like any neighborhood association, the members meet and decide on matters that will make the neighborhood peaceful and prosperous.

APEC delegates discuss things like economy, health, taxation, border control, business, energy, climate change, and a whole lot more!

#APEC2015 Tidbit # 2: APEC’s challenge is to inspire excellence in what we do.

Plans and decisions are useless until they are implemented.

And for implementation to be successful, it must be accomplished with excellence or results will end up as mediocre.

Part of APEC’s goal is to inspire the member countries to become the best version of themselves.

If you are a college graduate in the Philippines, it means you are also a college graduate in APEC member countries.

You don’t have to go to school again if you decide to migrate or work there.

That was part of the agreement during the previous APEC gatherings.

Isn’t it cool?

#APEC2015 Tidbit # 4: APEC is all about unity and cooperation.

#APEC2015 Tidbit # 5: The focus of APEC 2015 is the effect of climate change.

#APEC2015 Tidbit # 6: APEC will help Philippines battle it’s much bigger problem.

#APEC2015 Tidbit # 7: The Philippines joined APEC because we want to grow as a nation.

#APEC2015 Tidbit # 8: APEC has done wonders for our local businesses, especially those in the tourism, export, and food industry.
